Community Collaborative Cameraless Film Animation 2010 from CO Springs Fine Arts Center on Vimeo.
At last! We've completed a project that began Sept. 11, 2010 at Imagination Celebration's latest contribution to the Colorado Springs creativity scene, the first-ever WhatIf Festival.
What kept us from crossing the animator's finish line? Music!
Local Gypsy Jazz band Mango Fan Django was kind enough to share two original pieces to complement the silent film.
We encouraged all festival participants, both kids and adults, to animate at least a second of footage using a cameraless animation technique: Applying a rainbow of Sharpies on 16mm film! The result? Hundreds of people together created over 200 feet of hand-drawn, cameraless film animation featuring community talent.
Were you part of the animation project? Great! Missed the project? We still want to know, whether you're a fellow animator or just another hand-drawn film junkie . . . what do you think?

I work at Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin Missouri (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/spivacenterforthearts. I will most likely be stealing your idea in some way soon:) Kudos for coming up with such a creative, innovative community project and following through in such a successful way. I look forward to sharing some of the things we have done here as well.
LOVE THIS PROJECT!
Hope that the FAC has plans for increasing its involvement in art that celebrates process and innovation as well as originality!
