Free Day Goes All Day! (And other great grant news)

New Public Free Day hours
10 a.m. - 8 p.m. | Third Tuesday of each month
Admission: FREE!

In 2009, the FAC Development department identified potential for increased funding in the area of grants and began writing and submitting more grant proposals. The result? The Fine Arts Center has received 30 grants in the past two years totaling nearly $575,000.

We are particularly pleased (after seven previous submissions) to be a recipient of a highly competitive Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant, a two-year grant that runs through July 31, 2012.

Thanks to the IMLS grant, the FAC is extending the hours of our Public Free Days from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; an extra three hours in the evening to allow families, who can’t attend during our regular business hours (10 a.m – 5 p.m.), to visit the galleries at no cost. In addition, there will be docent-led tours, artists will be in the galleries offering technique demonstrations and both LUMA at the FAC and AmuzĂ© at the FAC will be open.

The ILMS grant supports Student Initiatives, including:
  • School Touring Program (busing students from schools for tours)
  • Adopt-A-School
  • Nueva Ventura
  • Talented in Art
  • Free Family Adventure Days at Bemis School of Art (monthly, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 30)
  • Extended Public Free Days, and Free Family Guides (Tara is working on the first for 75th Anniversary).
The IMLS grant will also allow the FAC to provide free Family Adventure Days each month, beginning this Oct. 30, featuring artist demos and hands-on art projects led by Bemis School of Art instructors. Kids of all ages can create their own works of art, using current FAC exhibitions as inspiration.

Bringing a group of 10 or more, but not scheduling a tour?
We would still appreciate advance notice of your visit! Please call ahead : 719.475.2444.
