Remembering Laurel, Hannah, Zoe and Lucy

It's hard to say goodbye to friends. We join our hearts with all those who mourn the loss of Laurel, Hannah, Zoe, and Lucy Constantinides. We felt lucky to have them and Alex as part of our Fine Arts Center family.

The two older girls were students at Bemis School of Art and we will all miss them and their joyful creativity. If you feel so moved, please join us in donating to www.halftheysky.org at Alex's request in lieu of flowers. This is an organization that is integral in improving the conditions for children in Chinese orphanages waiting to meet their “forever families."

Bemis Instructor Gabriella Christians shared these photos of the Constantinides family dancing at our recent Buckwheat Zydeco concert. And this is how we'll remember them: full of love and laughter, dancing with good friends.

Sound of Music Sing-A-Long

Limited Engagement
Aug. 4-7, 2011
Thursday & Friday at 7 p.m. | Saturday & Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets $20
Call 719.634.5583 or buy online here!

Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start) ...

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen Technicolor complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along. This inventive evening of entertainment has played worldwide; even filling the Hollywood Bowl – 18,000 people – three times.

FAC Performing Arts Director Scott RC Levy describes it as "a family-friendly version of the late-night Rocky Horror Show screenings."

Songs from The Sound of Music have become standards in the American songbook, including the title song, Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and Do-Re-Mi.

An interesting 75th Anniversary note, The Trapp Family Singers – the von Trapps of Austria depicted in the film – performed on the stage at the FAC in the late 1930s.

The fun-filled show starts with a vocal warm-up led by the evening’s host, who also takes the audience through their complimentary ‘magic moments pack’ containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film.

Then of course there is the famous fancy-dress competition in which everyone who has come in costume is invited onto the stage to show off their fantastic tailoring skills. Fancy dress is not obligatory but highly recommended! And really, wouldn't you feel left out if you didn't bring a costume?
